With an almost endless array of styles and functional features, you probably have yet to see a kitchen island you don’t like.  Kitchen islands often serve as the centerpiece of the kitchen so make sure yours not only looks great but is tailored to your lifestyle and your budget.

In many cases, creating a custom kitchen island and especially one with any bit of design character such as large turned corner legs or a solid butcher block maple top can add quite a bit to the budget.

Thankfully there are many options available today for kitchen islands that range from sizes, colors and finishes, to designs.  Islands today are available in sizes ranging from 36” diameter to 64” in length.  Some colors that you might consider are red, green, black, or cream.  Be sure to think about what style you are looking for to install in your kitchen.

As I consider an installation in a relatively long space, I am thinking in terms of two kitchen islands—plenty of space for work, hanging out, and traveling through the space with ease.  I am looking at their arrangements—some with drawers, others I could retrofit to add a sink, some with open shelves and others with wine racks.

Whatever the shape, color or style kitchen islands are the focal point of today’s kitchen. Check out these kitchen island ideas to consider as part of your remodeling project.
